Welcome to my inaugural post of 'Field Notes,' a space where the beauty of open farm fields meets the art of inspiration.
Each week, I'll bring you stories, reflections, and snapshots of life on the farm —moments that spark joy, invoke peace, and inspire creativity. From the golden hues of sunset over the fields to the quiet nights, there is so much beauty to share.
I hope these notes from my field to yours bring a touch of tranquility and a spark of inspiration to your day.
Here is what I am currently reading. Obsessed with Erin French.

Dahlias & Pumpkins: Companion Planting
Last fall, I decided to let my pumpkins decompose right in the front flower bed. It seemed the most romantic notion, imagining the pumpkins melting back into the soil, their remnants enriching the earth. Little did I know that this simple act of organic recycling would gift me with an enormous bounty of pumpkin seeds, scattered and waiting.

While this spring I diligently planted my beloved dahlias amongst the quiet promise of those seeds. But nature had a delightful surprise for me. Green, leafy sprouts began to appear, pushing through the soil —leaves that belonged to both the dahlias and the pumpkins.
Now, as late summer turns into fall, I find myself in a delightful predicament. My flower bed, intended to be full of dahlia blooms, is sharing its space with pumpkin vines. The pumpkins have sprawled and twined, their large leaves creating a lush, green canopy for my dahlias.
This unexpected companionship in my garden has become a bit of a challenge, yet an enchanting one. The space is tight, a little too snug for all the eager residents, but I am doing my best to make room for both.
German Village Adventures in Columbus, Ohio
Earlier this month, in the golden glow of early summer, Dan, Ethan, and I embarked on a weekend trip to the bustling heart of Columbus, Ohio. My heart fluttered with excitement at the thought of finally seeing the picturesque German Village, a place I'd often dreamed of through countless photos of charming brick houses and architecture.
Dan and I decided the best way to explore was by bike, allowing us to feel the pulse of the city as we rode. I knew this trip would be etched in my memory forever. I want to go back. And so, for those who dream of visiting Columbus, here are my five top places to visit:
Schiller Park - centrally located in German Village. It is a beautiful old park.
The Farmers Market on Saturday mornings - A vibrant spot to find fresh produce, unique crafts, and to experience the local culture.
Bakeries: Kittie's - The moment we stepped inside, the sweet, spicy scent of cinnamon wrapped around us like a warm hug.
The Book Loft of German Village - It is home to 32 rooms of bargain books! Need I say more?
Schmidt's Sausage Haus Restaurant - This historic eatery has been serving up authentic German cuisine since 1886. Their Bahama Mama sausage is a must-try!
